The new Apple TV may finally appear in 2022, but without the HomePod

(Pocket-lint) – Although we expected a new Apple TV to be announced earlier this year, we had no peek. In fact, even tvOS was not mentioned during the recent WWDC show.

However, a report claims that Apple will try to upgrade its TV later this year, with new internal hardware and more memory. Just don’t expect an upgraded HomePod either, as it’s unlikely to appear until 2023.

Blurberg’s Mark Gurman wrote in the latest issue of his weekly Power On newsletter that a new Apple TV – labeled J255 – will receive an A14 chip and an extra gigabyte of RAM.

With Apple TV 4K for 2021, offering approximately 3GB of RAM, this will put its successor up to 4GB. This and the new SoC should make the new model faster and even more capable of launching Apple Arcade games.

As for the next HomePod (B620), Gourmet suggests that Apple plans to increase the size again – making it more like the original HomePod than the Mini.

He also writes that there will be a similar chipset to the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8. The most interesting thing is that it will also use an updated display on top with multitouch functionality.

We guess we’ll find out more in the coming months as Apple prepares for a busy fall.
