The pedestrian street in downtown St. John opened for another summer.
The opening was greeted not only with fanfare, but also in the true style of St. John, with coolness in the air as the fog rolled through the gorges.
However, when the ribbon was cut and part of the fog burned, the summer heat joined the people who began to fill the streets.
Numerous city councilors, St. John’s East-Quidi Vidi MHA John Abbott and St. John East MP Joan Thompson, joined Mayor Bryn for the opening.
Mayor Breen says he has a different feel for the pedestrian mall this year than previous repetitions when the province emerged from the pandemic. He says more people will visit this year, noting that a number of cruise ships will visit during this period.
The pedestrian center will be open every day from now until Labor Day.
