A school was evacuated after a fake call to the police.
Mercy police confirmed that the Gateacre Community Secondary School received an alarming phone call today, Wednesday, June 15. As a result, staff members evacuated students from the main building around 10:50 a.m.
Emergency services, including a police helicopter, descended on the scene of the Hedgefield Road incident. Officers have since said the large police presence was a precautionary measure and no suspicious packages or devices were found.

A spokesman for the force said staff would remain in the area for some time to reassure the community. Investigations into the incident to determine who was responsible for the fraud are ongoing. Chief Inspector Jim Wilde said: “We take all fraudulent calls very seriously and will fully investigate the incident to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
Gareth Jones, head of the Gateacre School, said: “The students were temporarily evacuated this morning after receiving a telephone threat. Merseyside police have been called and have already declared the school safe after a search.
