When Game of Thrones aired, there was a lot of talk about the showmakers’ refusal to allow star Keith Harrington to cut his long hair because of his role as John Snow, a rule Harrington himself hated. Apparently, the actor has overcome it since Thrones aired in 2019, because it turns out that the idea for the TV sequel to John Snow on the hit fantasy series is nothing but the idea of Harrington.
George R. R. Martin confirmed this surprising fact in his Not a Blog, which, I remind you, is absolutely a blog:
“Yes, it was Keith Harrington who brought us the idea. I can’t tell you the names of the screenwriters / showrunners, as it’s not yet approved for release … but Keith also brought them, his own team, and they’re great. …
“Keith’s team visited me here in Santa Fe and worked with me and my own team of brilliant, talented writers / consultants to create the show.”
Martin also revealed the working title of the show, which is – and please keep your hats and monocle so they don’t fly out of your head and face in surprise – Snow. What Martin didn’t mention was what the hell the show was going to be about, given that Game of Thrones ended with John Snow crossing the Wall to abandon the Seven Kingdoms he technically had to rule instead of this he chose to live with the Wild. Will he go south to help his half-brother and current ruler Bran? Will there be dragons involved, or perhaps other secretly surviving Targaryens who claim to have, uh, claims to the Iron Throne? Are other monsters lurking behind the Wall now that the White Walkers have been destroyed?
G / O Media may receive a commission
Snow is currently one of several million neighboring Game of Thrones projects currently being developed by HBO, but given that this includes the most famous and recognizable star of the original series, we have to imagine that it has a large advantage over other spin- off. Even if Harrington asked for a haircut before filming began.
