The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the death of a 26-year-old man following a police interaction in North York early Sunday morning.
A news release on Sunday said Toronto police officers were called to a residence near Finch Avenue East and Leslie Street around 10:30 p.m. Saturday for a man with a knife who was allegedly making threats and was “in a mental disorder”.
The SIU said officers then arrested the man.
They say officers provided “medical aid” until paramedics arrived. The man was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead shortly after midnight.
Three investigators and one forensic scientist have been assigned to the case.
