The Spotify Stations application will be discontinued on May 16

Spotify music streaming service has confirmed that its lightweight Spotify Stations listening app will no longer be available from May 16th.

The company said the app and web player would no longer be available after that date, TechCrunch reported.

The Stations app was originally designed for those who want a more radio-like experience instead of having to search for music or customize their own playlists. Spotify Stations first launched in Australia in 2018 and was later introduced in the United States in 2019.

“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a series of experiments to create better listening for our users,” a spokesman told TechCrunch.

“Some of these tests ultimately pave the way for our wider user experience, while others serve only as important training. Our Spotify Stations Beta was one of those tests. We will remove the current feature, but users will be able to easily transfer their favorite stations and enjoy such a radio experience directly in the Spotify application, “added the spokesman.

Spotify did not specify the reason for its decision to turn off the stations, but noted that users can move all their favorite stations to the main Spotify app to continue listening to them.

The company said that while it doesn’t take sunset services lightly, Spotify Radio provides a similar experience when listening to Stations, so listeners can use it instead.

Spotify Radio is a feature in the main app that creates a playlist based on a song, album, playlist or artist you choose.
