Police are investigating after a man received life-threatening injuries in a shooting last night at the Sheguiandah First Nation.
SHEGUIANDAH FIRST NATION, ON – Police are investigating after a man received life-threatening injuries in a shooting last night at the Sheguiandah First Nation.
On June 24, at about 11:45 p.m., Manitulin Anishnaabe (UCCM) United Chiefs and Police Councils received a complaint about weapons in Wiingush Miikan, Sheghianda’s First Nation.
When police arrived on the scene, they found that the 32-year-old had gunshot wounds that were life-threatening and was transported to a local hospital.
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, but police believe the incident was isolated because they believe the victim was targeted.
This is an ongoing investigation led by the OPP Criminal Investigation Unit (CIB), with the assistance of the UCCM Police, the Manitulin Provincial Police Crime Unit (OPP), the Northeast Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), the OPP Judicial Identification Services (FIS) and the Regional OPP Support Team (RST).
The OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times.
