On Friday, the Texas Supreme Court blocked a lower court order that allowed some abortions.
The decision is the latest development for the state of Texas in an unusual few weeks.
On Friday, June 24, a majority of the US Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, ending constitutionally protected abortion rights nationwide.

The ruling led to so-called “trigger laws” taking effect in nearly two dozen states.
TEXAS ABORTION BAN TEMPORARILY BLOCKED BY JUDGE
One of those laws, signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, prevents abortions after the sixth week of pregnancy. The law is commonly referred to as the “heartbeat law” because it prohibits abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected.
Abortion providers in Texas were then forced to cancel abortions and warn those who had abortion appointments that they could not provide the service.

Almost as soon as the law went into effect, however, some abortion providers rushed to keep the practice legal.

Their efforts were initially successful when a Houston judge issued an order earlier this week reassuring doctors and abortion providers that they would still be allowed to resume abortions.

But on Friday, abortions were again banned — for the second time in a week — when the Texas Supreme Court temporarily blocked the lower court’s decision.

Over the past week, legal battles over abortion have erupted in many other states as state and local governments navigate the post- Roe world.

The Texas Supreme Court decision is pending a hearing, which is scheduled for later this month.
