Golden RCMP and BC Highway Patrol are investigating a collision near Golden between a logging truck and an SUV that killed one driver and sent the other to hospital by air ambulance.
The collision occurred shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 1 near Emerald Lake Rd. in Field, about 45 kilometers west of Golden, BC
Initial evidence gathered at the scene shows that the driver of the SUV was traveling east when he crossed the middle line and collided head-on with a logging truck coming from the opposite direction.
The driver of the logging truck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the driver of the jeep died on the spot.
“Investigators have found that there was no crime,” said Capt. Alex Berube, spokesman for the BC RCMP.
Highway 1 is now open after being closed for just over five hours on Wednesday morning.

The TransCanada highway is closed in both directions due to a vehicle accident between Golden Donald Upper Rd. and Field Visitor Access Street, 53.5 km.
An assessment is being made, but there is no estimated time for reopening. The only available detour is on Highway 95 around Radium.
The next scheduled update is not until 10:30 a.m.
