The war in Ukraine: What you need to know
The last: Russian forces appear to be approaching their goal of capturing the entire Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine, Western military analysts say, with the Kremlin claiming control of the Lyman, a key transportation hub, and its troops fighting a fierce battle for the city of Severodonetsk. The conquest of Severodonetsk would be a symbolic victory for the Kremlin. This is the last large city in Luhansk that is not under Russian occupation.
The battle: The slowly recovering Russian army is achieving gradual success in eastern Ukraine against valiant but under-equipped Ukrainian forces. The United States and its allies are vying to supply the vast quantities of weapons that Ukrainians urgently need if they want to keep the Russians at bay.
weapons: Ukraine is using weapons such as Javelin anti-tank missiles and Kamikaze Switchblade drones provided by the United States and other allies. Russia has used a number of weapons against Ukraine, some of which have attracted the attention and concern of analysts.
