The victim was rescued from the Severn River after a fifth serious accident in six weeks

Firefighters, paramedics and police stormed the Castlefields area on Friday night following reports of a man in the water.

The victim was rescued and left in the care of emergency services.

A spokesman for the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 10.10pm on Friday, May 6, SFRS Fire Control received a call announcing an incident classified as a water rescue in Shrewsbury. Reports about a man in the water. The crews rescued the victim and were left in the care of an ambulance.

“Five firefighters, including the accident command unit and the water rescue unit, were mobilized by Bashchurch, Misterley, Shrewsbury and Twidale. An operative was present. Police were also at the scene.
