Vancouver police are investigating a video circulating online that appears to show a driver using his vehicle to push a pedestrian down a road.
Pedestrian Mike (who didn’t want to use his last name) was walking down the sidewalk on East 8th Avenue and Kingsway on Thursday morning when he said a driver honked his horn and hit it.
He said the driver was waving his arms and shouting behind the wheel.
“He was in a hurry and looked really upset,” Mike said. “As I was crossing, he stopped and then hit me. After we got in touch, I had to get his information. “
Then Mike pulled out his phone and tried to take a picture of the license plate.
“But then he started accelerating and had to overtake him down the block to avoid being pulled under the vehicle,” he said. “I didn’t know what my next move was, but it was my immediate intuition not to get hurt.”

Mike said he finally got a photo of the license plate, and then the driver walked around him and went through the red light as he drove off.

Kate Metten, a local artist, witnessed the incident. She and a friend were sitting in front of Budgie’s Burritos when they heard a spray.
“We heard him and looked up and saw the car bounce off him,” she told Global News. “And then he froze in shock and said, ‘I need your information.’

Methen said the driver of the car was screaming and she began recording the incident on video.
“I saw the driver pushing him. He had to run back as he pushed him down the street. It could have been fatal. “
Methen said the footpath is really dangerous and has seen many accidents at the site.
“I was afraid that (Mike) would be sucked under the car and driven,” she added.
Mike said he was doing well now, but was worried about crossing the sidewalk again.
“It was my daily routine, but now that I’m crossing this sidewalk, I’m doing it with caution,” he told Global News.

Methen would like the city of Vancouver to take the issue seriously and install lights or do something to make the intersection safer.
The city sent an email to residents in the area to say that the intersection is on the list to have pedestrian light, but this is just one of more than 30 footpaths that need modernization in the city.
