After a calm start to the long weekend in southern Ontario, conditions could change to end it on Monday. The threat of severe weather returns with the potential for severe storms across parts of the region this afternoon and evening as the system moves through. The wind will also be gusty. Monday: A long weekend could end with storms in southern Ontario
Forecasters are watching for thunderstorms to develop across parts of southern Ontario on Monday, potentially strong in areas along Lake Huron, Georgian Bay and southwestern parts.
Storms could form Monday afternoon and meander off the shores of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Strong gusts of wind are the main threat, along with heavy rain and small hail. In particular, residents living in Windsor, London, Goderich and Owen Sound should be cautious and monitor weather alerts.
Storms may reach the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) by evening, but will lose some of their energy with the loss of sunlight and remain light in nature.
Gusts of southwest wind will also be strong. They will likely peak in the late afternoon and early evening ahead of the cold front. Gusts will reach 40-60+km/h. The wind will then weaken during the night and turn to the northwest.
Temperatures will remain comfortable for Tuesday, near or even slightly below seasonal, but humidity increases by midweek. The threat of non-severe storms will remain across southeastern Ontario on Tuesday.
