This week was quite filled with storms on the prairies, with many days of strong thunderstorms that triggered tornadoes and warnings in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.
Although there were several reports of tornadoes this week, two were confirmed by storms in Saskatchewan. On the evening of Thursday, June 23, a strong thunderstorm moved north from Morse, Saskato, to Central Butte. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) received tornado reports near Morse around 5:40 p.m. local time.
The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) and the ECCC have collaborated to confirm the tornado and will continue to gather evidence to document the path and intensity of the tornado. The included tornado force estimate is preliminary and subject to change if more information becomes available.
The twister happened 30 km north of Morse, but no damage has been reported so far, so it was given a preliminary estimate of the default EF-0. The storms also led to reports of hail the size of a golf ball in Yorkton, Saskato, and rainfall of 181 mm in Spirtwood.
There was also a tornado in southwestern Saskatchewan, north of the Rheinfeld neighborhood, around 5:40 p.m. on Monday. This is the location of the Centennial Wind Farm. He was also rated EF-0.
Strong thunderstorms also followed in parts of southern Manitoba on Thursday, triggering tornado warnings for some areas on Thursday, although none have been confirmed so far. However, in Binscart and Rosburn, Mann, there was hail the size of baseball.

Also Thursday, heavy rains and thunderstorms passed through Alberta as a low-pressure system tracked through the countryside.
Another round of strong thunderstorms hit the eastern prairies on Friday day, bringing heavy hail, torrential rains and localized flooding in parts of southern Manitoba.
A slow-moving wave line developed south of the border and gradually filled southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario by Friday night, prompting a tornado to observe parts of the latter. These slow-moving storms lasted until the wee hours of Saturday.
Heavy rainfall was reported during some thunderstorms in Manitoba, with 100 mm in Carloury in one hour, 52.9 mm in Winnipeg Airport in one hour and 50 mm in rain in St. Joseph in 30 minutes.
At 10 p.m. local time on Friday night, Carloury received 100 mm of rainfall, 69 mm observed in Dominion City, 59 mm documented in Rosa, 54 mm at Winnipeg Airport and 50 mm in St. Joseph, among others.
Here’s a look at some of the storms that passed through the prairies this week:
