After a stormy start to the weekend in parts of central Canada, including a possible tornado in Quebec, the threat of severe weather resurfaces Sunday. The focus will be more on southern Ontario with several rounds of storms possible, with the possibility of strong winds, small hail, heavy rain. Even a tornado cannot be ruled out near Lake Erie and the Niagara region. The good news is that Sunday will be the last heat for the foreseeable future and the last threat of a storm for at least a few days this week. Sunday: A risk of severe weather creeps into southern Ontario and Quebec
Sunday has the potential to see a few rounds of thunderstorms across the southern halves of Ontario and Quebec. Rain and thunderstorms may move across southern Ontario during the morning hours on Sunday.
Meanwhile, a cold front moving south will collide with the hot, unstable air parked over the region. Widespread thunderstorms are possible along and ahead of the cold front during the day Sunday as the boundary moves across the region.
However, there is some uncertainty regarding storm coverage in southern Ontario given the morning rain and storms. The coverage and intensity of the storm here will depend on how much the atmosphere can recover and destabilize again in the afternoon.
However, models show clearing in the early afternoon in southwestern Ontario to add some energy to the atmosphere. Strong winds remain the primary concern, but forecasters cannot rule out the risk of tornadoes north of Lake Erie and the Niagara region, where the storms have the best chance of developing independently.
The risk of severe storms also extends into southern and eastern Quebec, with the potential for small hail, heavy rain and strong wind gusts.

Looking ahead: A beautiful start to the last week of July
Conditions will become calmer and a bit cooler behind the cold front come Monday. We can expect lower humidity and temperatures around the season as we begin the last week of July, a change that will feel downright refreshing after the past week.
Our next opportunity for active weather will arrive late Wednesday or Thursday, followed by a return to pleasant conditions and near-seasonal temperatures heading into the long weekend. Looking ahead, there is the potential for fairly warm weather across the region during the first week of August.
