THIS WEEK: TEMPERATURES ARE COOLING WITH STORM RISK

An extreme change in the pattern is already under way in British Columbia, with Tofino wrapped in a sea cloud until Monday afternoon – a harbinger of cooler air flowing inward. Temperatures will drop on Tuesday after the end of the first hot event of the season on the South Coast.

The winds will lower temperatures by up to 10 degrees along the coast and by five degrees inland.

The cooler air up makes the atmosphere a little naturally unstable, so there is a risk of thunderstorms throughout the countryside. Heavy rains are always a threat with steep terrain, but heavy hail and strong winds are an additional threat in more developed thunderstorms in the interior.

Some of these storms could reach severe limits later on Tuesday afternoon.

Isolated, prolonged rainfall will continue to spiral across the province with the upper crust on Wednesday. A drying trend is forecast for Thursday and Canada Day, with temperatures close to the seasonal value.

Much cooler weather, within a few degrees of the season, will persist in southern British Columbia over the long weekend.

Meanwhile, the northern regions will be warmer than the seasonal ones on most days this week.
