THIS WEEK: MULTI-DAY STORM THEATER FOR ALBERTA, POSSIBLE SUPER CELLS TUESDAY

The border, which moved through Alberta on Monday, brought the potential for several thunderstorms in the central parts of the province in the evening.

The threat will intensify on Tuesday with a low-pressure system running in southern Alberta, leading to a wider risk of storms in the southern half of the province.

Communities from Red Deer to Calgary and the surrounding areas of QE2 will need to be on the lookout for more widespread, scattered storms. In fact, there will be potential for several supercells to develop in the late afternoon to early evening.

Other hazards include heavy hail and strong gusts of wind.

There will be heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Wednesday for parts of Alberta, including near Edmonton, but heavy rain will be lacking in much of the south as the low-pressure system moves farther east into the region.

LOOK AHEAD: TEMPERATURES WARM UP FOR THE LONG WEEKEND

Low temperatures will be observed in the middle of the week in most of the region, after which it will warm up for the long weekend for Alberta.

A long period of warm weather is expected to develop on the prairies after the long weekend for Canada Day, but no excessive heat is expected. High temperatures will be from the mid to 20s with the possibility of lower 30s at times in the southern regions.
