Monday, June 6, 2022, 9:03 p.m. – Another round of thunderstorms threatens heavy rains and funnel clouds in parts of Alberta on Tuesday.
Southern Alberta has finally received some useful rain in the last few days, which has helped alleviate some of the drought that has been a problem for months. There were also days of thunderstorms that caused localized floods, hail and even funnel clouds on Monday. Similar conditions are expected on Tuesday, but with less risk, as the system responsible for the setup begins to recede. More about what happened on Monday and what’s next for Tuesday, below.

Rainfall and thunderstorms will continue on Monday night, with rain continuing at night. Light thunderstorms are also possible on Tuesday, but not as wide as on Monday as the system recedes.
A cohesion zone in the atmosphere, focused on parts of the province, could also bring potential for cloud development in a funnel throughout the day.
In general, between 50-75 + mm precipitation is possible in locally stronger storms that remain in a given area for an extended period of time.
Calgary receives about 94 mm of rain in typical June. With 30-50 mm of extra rainfall in the forecast for parts of the Calgary subway area, we are watching more than half a month of rain fall during these few days.
Prairie rainfall has been a story of everything or nothing for the past few months. Although the people of Manitoba cannot relax from the prolonged floods, it has been difficult to get a lot of rain in the west lately.
Much of southern Alberta has had less than half the normal rainfall in the last 90 days. This impending cycle of constant rainfall will help to moisten the soil and will begin to reverse some of the damage caused by this prolonged dry weather.
Drought has led to increased fire risk for much of the region. Be on the lookout for potential evacuation notices if you are in Southern Alberta or Southern Saskatchewan. Officials ordered an evacuation on Friday over a wildfire north of Crimson Lake in Clearwater County.
The drier conditions will adjust and persist until the end of the week, as temperatures return to seasonal and higher by the end of the week.
This weekend is expected to be a short period of very warm to hot weather with temperatures from the mid to over 20s, and in several places reaching 30 ° C for southern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan on Saturday.
