If you are hoping for a sunny and warm long weekend, head all the way to the Arctic Circle, where it is probably the best time of the weekend for Canada Day.
The northernmost coasts of the Northwest Territories and the Yukon can flirt with highs 20 or lows 30 as the summer ridge raises temperatures in the Far North of Canada.
Western Canada will also benefit from this ridge. In British Columbia and Alberta, sunshine is expected at times, with seasonal or slightly above temperatures. However, a pleasant start to the weekend can end with isolated thunderstorm activity.
Frequent bouncing thunderstorms can interrupt camping, hiking or mountain activities in the second half of the weekend.
In Central Canada, Friday afternoon and evening will be observed for Ontario and Quebec.
Although no rainfall is expected, a classic summer forecast for Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Atlantic Canada is expected: Hot, humid, with the possibility of thunderstorms.
A subtropical air mass rising up the east coast will fight a low-pressure cold system centered over Hudson Bay.
Cold, similar to May temperatures in central Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, which are facing summer heat in the south, will lead to an active storm boundary across the Great Lakes.
This carries the risk of isolated thunderstorms as a cold front passes through Ontario and Quebec on Canada Day, eventually reaching Atlantic Canada on Sunday.
There is uncertainty about the weather and how far south in Ontario the thunderstorm will reach, so homes in the said regions should check again when further details emerge.
