The White House has announced the purchase of a second Operation Fly Formula flight later this week, which will transport 114 Gerber Good Start Extensive HA pallets to the United States.

President Biden made the announcement Sunday morning after the first flight landed in the United States over the weekend.

US Air Force planes took off from Germany’s Ramstein Air Force Base with a total of 14 pallets containing more than 71,000 pounds of baby formula.

The operation comes after President Biden cited the Defense Proceedings Act to speed up the production of baby formula.

National shortages of infant formulas have recently escalated due to Abbott Nutrition’s voluntary withdrawal of specific powder formulas manufactured at its facility in Sturgis, Michigan, after four complaints that four babies consuming plant-based products became infected with bacterium. and two of them died.

Abbott Nutrition said in a statement on May 11 that it could be months before Sturgis’ availability, Michigan the plant will reach store shelves after a voluntary withdrawal forced the company to cease operations at the facility. The plant was originally closed in February. Abbott said none of the infant deaths were related to a product manufactured at the Sturgis plant.
