A Winnipeg man was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to recruiting and directing two women to provide sexual services for hire.
The allegation stems from a lengthy investigation by the anti-exploitation unit of the Winnipeg Police Department, called Project Bluff. Work involving covert and covert operations.
At the sentencing of 34-year-old Feros Taylor, late last month, the court heard that he had made contact with one of the women in June 2020 through a website called Fans Only, where people can pay for images and videos from the account holder and later recruited the second woman.
A rental property in Osborne Village was one of three apartments heard by the court used by Tailor for what a Manitoba judge described during his sentence on May 30, 2022, as a “complex, well-thought-out operation.”
The operative court hearing involved recruiting and directing a 21-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman to provide massages and sexual services to clients through meetings Taylor would arrange before police in Winnipeg arrested and charged him with multiple crimes and confiscated about $ 42,000 from a safe in his home.
“It was an unfair value for the work he did, compared to what he had to do,” said Sergeant Sergeant. Maria Konyuk told reporters on Friday.
Taylor pleaded guilty to one charge of material gain from sexual services. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
“These three years are very important because you have a person here who does not have a criminal record,” Konyuk said.
In a concerted statement of facts, Crown told the court that Taylor had first begun interacting with the 21-year-old in her Only Fans account.
The court heard that he told the woman that there was an opportunity for her and she agreed to work.
The crown told the court that Taylor had begun arranging meetings between the woman and clients, which included massages and sexual services, with the exception of sexual intercourse in three rental properties.
She would leave him part of her income in the $ 3,000 apartments.
The court heard a second woman, 19, who had started working for Tailor and agreed to share her income with him and that both women were afraid of Tailor.
“We say that in the case of these two exploited persons, Mr Taylor attacked the applicants for his own gain,” Crown told the court during the sentencing.
“We say that this behavior is reprehensible and should be condemned, which is why we say that the sentence of three years in prison is appropriate.
Martin Glaser, Tailor’s lawyer, told the court that his client believed he was helping women and himself make money, but was now ashamed and remorseful.
“It was an illegal enterprise,” Glaser told the judge. “He has gone too far and will pay a high price for this decision today, and this price is a criminal conviction with all the risks to safety.
The court heard that Winnipeg police had received orders to enter the apartments and watched Taylor collect some of the money.
Employees also used money with pre-recorded serial numbers, which were later found in Tailor’s safe.
Police said they wanted people to know that officers were committed to protecting people from exploitation and that the perpetrators would be held accountable.
“I’ve seen where people who aren’t even involved in the sex trade have been asked to provide services,” Konyuk said. “It’s happening to young people who are just walking down the street. This is not a crime without victims. ”
Police are asking anyone who has information or wishes to speak to an investigator about crimes related to the provision of sexual services or human trafficking to contact the Anti-Exploitation Department at 204-986-3464 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786 -8477.
