The Xiaomi 12S line was unveiled as the first Leica phones

Xiaomi has revealed the identities of the first three products from its partnership with Leica: Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12 S Pro and Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

All three phones will receive an official presentation event in China on July 4, which remains just under a week at the time of writing.

In a related post on Weibo (which is the main social network in China), Xiaomi gives us a meaningful one line for each device. So, the regular Xiaomi 12S is “the first high-end upgrade with a small size”, while the Xiaomi 12S Pro is the “New flagship standard for 2022”.

Finally, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra has been described as a “flagship with a new height.”

As the somewhat distorted structure of these comments suggests, they all went through the translation filter from their native Mandarin.

If you think this seems like a quick twist on the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro, it’s worth remembering that these phones launched much earlier in China on December 31, 2021. In other words, this is the perfect time for the six – Monthly refresh, which has become common in the leading circles of Android.

No details are shared about the specifications for these devices, except to say that all three will pack Leica camera technology. Xiaomi announced that it has partnered with the German luxury camera brand back in May, which practically exceeds the previous partner of Leica and the local competitor Huawei.

We’ve seen extensive specifications leaks for what used to be called the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, however. It will be predictably capable if it is slightly under-equipped in the battery compartment.
