Three car crashes in western Quebec caused by a sleepy driver, police say

Police in western Quebec say a driver who allegedly fell asleep at the wheel early Saturday morning caused a crash of three vehicles near L’Ange-Guardian.

MRC-des-Collines-de-l’Outaouais police said the crash happened on Highway 309 around 5:25 a.m. A 23-year-old woman from Mayo, who was traveling south, apparently asleep and turning her sedan in the opposite direction, hit a pickup truck pulling a boat traveling north.

A 47-year-old man from Gatineau, driving a pickup truck, finds himself in a ditch with his 15-year-old son. A third driver hit the boat he was towing, police said in a statement.

The 23-year-old woman was hospitalized with a leg injury, and the 47-year-old man was taken to hospital as a precaution. Police did not report any injuries to the 15-year-old and said the driver of the third vehicle had only a “good fear” of the experience.

The road was closed for some time early Saturday morning, but has since reopened.
