Three passengers attacked at the San Francisco International Airport on suspicion of arrest

Three passengers were attacked by a man with a “sharp weapon” at San Francisco International Airport on Friday night, authorities said.

San Francisco police said a man drove a vehicle into the airport, entered an international terminal, “walked around the departure terminal and pulled out a sharp weapon” before attacking three men at about 6 p.m., San Francisco police said.

The passengers were in the pre-security zone of the international terminal when they were attacked, said the airport’s on-duty manager Russell Mackie.

Airport spokesman Doug Yakel said the suspect “tried to injure several passers-by”. Police said officers responded to the scene and arrested the suspect “without incident.”

The three victims received medical treatment on the spot and were released with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

“They were treated for minor abrasions and released,” Mackie said, adding that they continued to travel.

The suspect has been detained. The man’s name, age and place of residence – as well as his “pending charges” – were not disclosed during the ongoing investigation, police said.

Mackie said information on the type of weapon used was not immediately available.

It is unclear whether the suspect is a passenger, Mackie said. The motive is unknown, Mackie said.

Yakel said the attack did not affect airport operations.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact the San Francisco Police Department at 415-575-4444 or send advice to TIP411 and start the message with “SFPD”.
