THUNDERSTORMS could end next week’s heatwave, the Met Office said, with heavy rain, hail and “frequent lightning” possible.
A yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued for Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and the rest of Dorset.
It will be in place between 6am and 11.59pm on Monday 15 August.

Up to 20mm to 30mm of rain could be seen in one hour with the potential for flooding in some areas.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Although some places will avoid them, there is a chance that thunderstorms will develop more widely as Monday progresses.
“Storms are likely to be already underway for Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland by early Monday, before also developing across parts of England and Wales by late morning and afternoon. Storms should begin to weaken from the west later.
“Very locally, 20-30mm of rain is possible in an hour and up to around 50mm in three to six hours. Hail and frequent lightning are also possible.”

What should I expect?
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses will be quickly flooded, with some building damage from flooding, lightning strikes, hail or high winds
- In the event of a flood or lightning strike, delays and some canceled trains and buses are likely
- Spraying and flash flooding may lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- There is a small possibility that power outages will occur and other services for some homes and businesses will be lost

An amber “extreme heat” warning is currently in place for Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and the wider Dorset area.
