The creator of Undertale and Deltarune, Toby Fox, has often demonstrated his many skills during his time in the industry – from writing to game design and even composing music! And the latter attracted special attention from Game Freak and The Pokémon Company.
Toby Fox confirmed on Twitter today that he is responsible for some of the music we could hear in today’s trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet! Namely, Toby Fox composed the “field music” of the game, which he said Game Freak rearranged several times during the game. Sounds like this is one of the great leitmotifs of Scarlet and Violet!
But that’s not all; Toby Fox also confirmed that he contributed more than one song to the game, with a cheeky little reference to his contribution to Sword and Shield’s own soundtrack.
A few more Toby Fox songs will also be in the game, so please look forward to them! This time my music is not your choice !!! – tobyfox (@tobyfox) June 1, 2022
For those who don’t remember, this isn’t the first time Toby Fox has worked with Game Freak. He was previously the lead composer of the Little Town Hero RPG. But he also composed a song for Generation 8 Pokémon games – a Battle Tower theme that many players might not have heard if they hadn’t followed this challenge in the aftermath!
Here is an excerpt from the absolute bop that Toby Fox composed for Sword and Shield:

At least in Scarlet and Violet, Toby Fox’s music will be an integral part of the main game. And it sounds good to us from what we can see in the trailer! Give him another watch and let us know if you can spot any style of Toby Fox in music.
How much more Generation 9 music can we accept today? We already know what the new legends, your new professors, a handful of new ‘mons’ and some potential past and future topics will look like. fu! It’s just a scratch on the surface.
