Where does Wordle come from?
Wordle’s sudden explosion at the end of 2021 led to a round of press focused on its creator. Former Reddit engineer Josh Wardle actually invented the game in 2021 as a personal exercise for him and his pun-loving partner. It eventually became a staple of their family WhatsApp messages, and that’s when Wardle began to suspect there might be something special enough to merit wider distribution.
Thousands of people around the world now play this game every day and fans have even created alternatives to Wordle inspired by the original format. This includes a music identification game Hurdlefavorites of Hollywood geeks An actor and In a frameand variations such as Dordle and Quardle which they do guess several words at once.

What is the best Wordle opening word?
We’ve got a few ideas to help you pick the perfect first move. Such tips include choosing a word with at least two different vowels in it, plus a few common consonants like S, T, R, or N. Also, even if you’re attached to your math-sound starter, once that’s the answer in a given day it won’t be the answer again for a few years — so if you happen to get the elusive 1/6, celebrate by swapping your starting five.

While you were once able to play the entire archive of past puzzles, the archive has been taken down at the request of the New York Times, according to the site’s creator.

Is Wordle getting harder?
If you find Wordle too easy, there is a hard mode you can activate to challenge yourself more. But unless you enable this mode, we can assure you that Wordle doesn’t get any harder.
Why are there two different Wordle answers some days?
The whole point of Wordle is that everyone solves the same puzzle with the same answer, no matter where you are in the world. However, sometimes the puzzle game will accept two different correct solutions on the same day. That deviation is due to changes the New York Times began making after it acquired Wordle earlier this year, cutting words from Wardle’s original list that the team deemed obscure or potentially offensive.
