The pilot of a low-flying plane spotted in Peachland during the World of Wheels at Sunday may be in hot water with Transport Canada.
The small plane startled some residents as it buzzed at the car show and the busy promenade.
“There were people who were worried and anxious walking along the promenade,” said Kirsten de Jaeger, who filmed the maneuver.
Transport Canada says the pilot of the plane could lose his license due to the stunt or be fined.
Generally speaking, Canadian aviation regulations require aircraft to stand 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle unless taking off or landing while operating over a built-up area.
“The video was brought to the attention of our civil aviation experts, who reviewed the video and contacted the pilot,” said Sau Sau Liu, a spokesman for Transport Canada.
“When the department receives a complaint containing sufficient information to identify the pilot and confirm that there has been a breach of Canadian aviation rules, an administrative fine (fine) or, depending on the nature and gravity of the breach, a certificate of pilot may be suspended. “
The department publishes a list of corporate and non-corporate violators on its website to serve as a deterrent and to raise public awareness and education on aviation safety.
“If someone suspects that a pilot is operating an aircraft in a dangerous manner and in violation of Canadian aviation regulations, we encourage him to record as much information as possible to help the department review incidents more effectively,” Liu said.
