Tropical system of impact on Central Florida

A tropical weather system will bring rain to Central Florida, although some areas will be affected much more than others.

Tropical storm warnings were issued early Friday for Brevard and Oceola counties as the system could turn into Alex, the first so-called storm of the 2022 hurricane season later in the day.

Potential Tropical Cyclone 1 remains an extremely disorganized system as South Florida is battered by heavy rain. No change in condition or strength is expected before the disturbance moves to Florida, according to an update from the National Hurricane Center at 2 a.m. Saturday.

Rain from the system will probably start on Friday night, with more wet weather possible on Saturday.

“Osceola and Brevard counties will have the heaviest rain,” News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said.

From 2 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, computer models showed that these areas could see up to 3 inches of rain and gusts of wind at speeds in excess of 45 miles per hour.

Light rain is expected in Orlando and the surrounding area, with 0.22 inches of rain expected in Orlando; Sanford to receive 0.27 inches; Cocoa Beach to get 1.24 inches; and Daytona Beach will have 0.02 inches of rain until 9 p.m. on Saturday.

“If we see any shift in the cone, we can see a big difference,” Bridges said.

The hurricane season lasts until December 1.
