Trump’s humiliation in Georgia was even worse than you know

Like Wyatt Earp after the OK Corral shootout, Donald Trump and his allies went on a vendetta in Georgia.

Unlike Earp and his squad, however, Trump did not get his man or any of his associates, and Governor Brian Kemp and Co. did not even have to leave the territory.

Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Rafensperger had provoked Trump’s anger by refusing to indulge in his misconceptions about the 2020 election or engaging in any legally dubious maneuvers to change the outcome in Georgia, and felt White’s rage house and Mar-a. -Lago.

It is not often that politicians do the right thing and infuriate the most influential figure in their party and the most devoted element of their political base and live to tell the story. Kemp and Rafensperger have. Together with former Vice President Mike Pence, whose separation from Trump is increasingly apparent, they form a cadre that has withstood intense pressure to turn its back on its 2020 responsibilities – showing the backbone and moral and institutional integrity that will contribute to their merit in history textbooks.

They are also looking to the future when the Republican Party escapes the canyon of Trump’s Stop theft mania. This day is not here, but Tuesday’s results show that it may not be incredibly far.

If Trump had rationally calculated his interests, he would have twice considered turning his landmark project in the primary season of 2022 into a challenge for an established, politically astute governor.

Instead, he pulls the strings to create nationwide revenge that provokes everyone down from Camp. Trump wanted to remove US Representative Vernon Jones from the primary gubernatorial election to pave the way for his favorite candidate, former Senator David Purdue. He persuaded Jones to run in the primary election for the 10th Congressional District, and then removed one of his former councilors, Patrick Whit, from the primary election in Congress and the primary election against Kemp’s current elected commissioner of insurance.

The story of the tape is that Perdue received 21.8 percent of the vote, Jones received 21.6 percent and Witt received 16.7 percent.

In Whit’s honor, he was sent on a particularly pointless suicide mission.

As a 32-year-old former Trump adviser who worked on the president’s legal team trying to overturn Georgia, Whit competed against John King, a former police chief and Major General of the Georgia National Guard, who was the first Hispanic to serve in a state office in Georgia.

(Nearly 22 percent Jones collected, by the way, was enough for second place in a crowded field and he managed to reach the runoff).

Georgia’s Republican primary voters clearly supported moving beyond the all-consuming focus on 2020 and opposed Trump continuing to make the state his political toy.

Trump has catalyzed some healthy and beneficial changes in the Republican Party.

The defeat is his fixation by 2020 that Trump has done everything possible to force the party.

The orthodox attitude towards stolen elections forces Republican politicians to say something that is untrue and most know it to be untrue; he institutionalized a policy of cynicism and fear – fear of both Trump and his constituents; this reduces the focus on Joe Biden’s ongoing failures; and it is not helpful in winning amazing voters.

It is possible to read too much about the victories of Kemp and Rafensperger, which would be difficult to achieve without the advantages of the title and the disadvantages of opponents, while Pence will have much to overcome if he runs in 2024.

But by refusing to play by the rules set by Trump, they have shown courage that should be encouraging to others in the party. Being an ambitious Republican does not mean encouraging or accepting lies for 2020 for fear of a lawyer whose firepower and writing are less publicized.
