San Francisco: Microblogging site Twitter has confirmed that it has started testing a new feature – CoTweets – that allows two accounts to co-author a single tweet and both be tagged in a single tweet.
The platform said this new feature is already live for some users for a limited time after the company started experimenting with the idea earlier this year, reports The Verge.
“We continue to explore new ways for people to collaborate on Twitter,” said Twitter spokesman Joseph J. Nunez, quoted in a statement by the website.
“We’re testing CoTweets for a limited time to learn how people and brands can use this feature to grow and reach new audiences and increase collaboration with other accounts,” Nunez added.
In a tweet from its Twitter account, the company confirmed that the feature is available to select accounts in the US, Canada and Korea.
Several Twitter users have tested the feature, and the trial allows the primary tweeter to invite someone else to be tagged in the tweet and discuss the content via DM, the report said.
The second account must approve the co-authored tweet, and the resulting tweet shows that it was co-authored by two people, but replies appear to be directed only at the primary author of the tweet, they added.
