Jordan Peele’s No has been the talk of the town in recent days, becoming one of the most anticipated films of the season.
The director’s sci-fi film recently premiered in Los Angeles to rave reviews with critics calling it his “most ambitious film” to date. The film, which was just released today, features Daniel Kaluuya in the lead role alongside Keke Palmer in this summer blockbuster. Speaking with Variety, Peele discussed the film and the inspirations behind it in detail,
“We tried to make a big summer blockbuster that you can enjoy as much as you want. If you want to come in and just smoke a big joint and talk to a friend about public issues, you can. If you want to come and just relax and get away from it all and see Keke Palmer in the middle of a UFO, then this is what we have for you.’
The film sees Kaluuya reuniting with Palmer as a pair of siblings who discover that an alien spaceship has hovered over the family’s horse ranch. As the duo set out to film the spaceship with a camera, their mission takes a turn. The two are joined by Stephen Ewen, Brandon Perea, Michael Wincott, Wren Schmidt and Keith David. Critics gave Peele a thumbs up and congratulations, with many calling him “out of this world” and “thrilling”. Other accolades included calling the film a “definite YES” and a performance that was “absolutely phenomenal.”

#NopeMovie is otherworldly but indescribable. From instances of pure horror to heartfelt moments between the characters, #Nope is an experience that won’t be easy to shake off when you find yourself picking your jaw up from the floor. Jordan Peele has done it again! @nopemovie pic.twitter.com/bUr1ad5TAx

Jordan Peele’s Nope is his most confident, unfettered and potentially divisive look yet. Swapping the exclamation points of horror for the question marks of science fiction, it’s less about the scares. With hints of close encounters, jaws and more, #NopeMovie is a true puzzle. pic.twitter.com/Ny3EVaLTqW

Jordan Peele’s #Nope is one of the best movies I’ve seen this year! It’s scary and fierce, but also very funny and unlike any UFO movie you’ve ever seen. It’s a totally unique and VERY entertaining horror epic full of wild surprises and an unforgettable performance by Keke Palmer pic.twitter.com/iua9HPt0RG

The most important thing to know about NOPE is that it’s wildly different from Get Out & Us. This is Jordan Peele spreading his wings and making a big budget Spielberg-esque sci-fi, but with the subtext you’d expect. Go in with an open mind and you will be rewarded. #NoMovie

#NopeMovie is an absolute blast!! @JordanPeele has created a loving tribute to fans of a certain Spielberg masterpiece – I’ll let you find out. The cast is excellent and the sound and set design are impeccable! Full review @joblocom very soon! It’s a wild ride!

#NOPEM The movie is not what you expect and the trailer doesn’t do it justice.
Jordan Peele is doing the unthinkable – again.
RUN, DON’T WALK TO SEE IT THIS WEEKEND.
EXCELLENT-!
GIVE KEKE PALMER ALL THE AWARDS THIS YEAR.

Nope is Jordan Peele’s most ambitious film, but also his weakest. The first act is superb, but in the second it loses its footing and becomes a bad M. Night Shyamalan movie with Spielberg elements. It lacks a sense of focus with a story that is never fully realized. #NoMovie

NOPE is out of this world. A monster mess with great performances (especially Kaluuya) and a 1950s sci-fi invasion motif. A performance about the horrors of spectacles.
Jordan Peele has been compared to Hitchcock, but NOPE shows that he is a new generation of Carpenter. Enjoy the show and don’t look up. pic.twitter.com/dGKwbXg0WF

I won’t spoil any aspect of @JordanPeele’s #NopeMovie other than to say a *big* thumbs up.
And cinematographer Hoyt Van Hoytema shot the film using @IMAX cameras, so if you’re going to see #No, watch it in IMAX. Hoytema previously directed Tenet, Dunkirk and Interstellar. pic.twitter.com/92z9udtRMT

#NopeMovie is a solid YES. See it on the biggest screen you can find. An exciting and strange spectacle unlike anything else out there. I will never look at the sky the same way again.

So #NopeMovie is absolutely phenomenal in so many ways. It perfectly combines sci-fi spectacle with a story that is also something of a Hollywood reckoning and exceeded my expectations. Gorgeously shot, the sound mix is thunderous and the entire cast shines. Love, love loved him. pic.twitter.com/qdcZIvsX5T
