Two women died in a crash of two vehicles near Miramichi, NB, on Saturday.
The 72-year-old woman and the 55-year-old woman crashed in Bartibog, NB, around 1:40 p.m.
The Neguac RCMP ambulance in New Brunswick and the Miramichi Fire Department responded to the collision between a car and a pickup truck.
Police believe the accident happened when the car was traveling south on Route 8, crossing the middle line and crashing head-on into a pickup truck traveling north.
Both women in the car were from Dieppe. They died on the spot.
The only passenger in the pickup was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A member of the New Brunswick Coroner and an RCMP collision reconstruction specialist are assisting in the investigation.
Route 8 was closed for about five hours, but has since reopened.
