Two school buses crash north of Montreal with almost 90 children on board

A crash involving two school buses carrying 90 children and counselors to the camp happened Wednesday morning on Highway 15 near the suburb of Beaubriand off the island of Montreal.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. on the southbound 15 freeway before freeway 640 as a school bus driver had to hit the brakes when traffic suddenly slowed about 40 kilometers north of Montreal.

Although no one was seriously injured, all 90 children and counselors at the day camp were taken to the nearest hospital, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“All parents have now been contacted and the hospital will also act as a collection point for the children,” said Catherine Bernard, SQ spokeswoman.

All southbound lanes of Highway 15 are now fully open to traffic.
