Two people were stranded near the shore near Dowlish Warren after the boat they were in broke down. The crew of the Exmouth RNLI lifeboat was informed that two people were in trouble around 9:50 p.m. on Friday, June 17.
Volunteer rescuers, led by Inshore Lifeboat Helm, Harry Griffin and crew Ed Thomas and Ed Steele, fired shortly after 10pm and quickly headed to the scene, quickly finding the four-meter rib and its two passengers.
The crew assessed the situation and found that the rib motor could not be started. They then towed the boat and its pair to a safe place in Exmouth Harbor. There were no casualties and no medical assistance was needed.

Other Exmouth RNLI volunteers who helped were the launch’s deputy director, Rick Newcomb, rocket chief Neil Cannon, tractor driver Carl Halford and shore crew Rory Carrig, Jason Luff and Jake Richards.
After making sure the ship and its occupants were safe, the volunteer crew and the coastal lifeboat returned to the Exmouth RNLI rescue station at 10:40 p.m. and resumed service a little later.
The lifeboat helmet, Harry Griffin, said: “The residents of the ribs were well equipped for emergencies and it was unfortunate that when they left Dawlish Warren, their outboard engine malfunctioned, leaving them stranded. We were happy to help and happy that the situation ended well. “
