The University of British Columbia Okanagan wants to talk about the impact of social and economic change in our community.

UBCO is hosting the first-ever Lab for Social and Economic Change at the Kelowna Innovation Center from July 16-22.

The idea is to bring together students, artists, the public, staff and faculty to explore social and economic change using exhibitions, performances and talks over the course of a week.

The SE-Change Lab kicks off on Saturday with a mobile performance in downtown Kelowna from 3-5pm. Activities continue throughout the week with exhibitions, performances, installations, documentaries and open discussions, including rooftop receptions.

“We work with communities and the public, locally and globally, to share and co-create knowledge about the challenges that matter to them. Through exhibitions, performances and talks, the SE-Change festival explores social and economic change in real places – what it looks like, its effects and how it takes shape. The festival brings together academics, artists and members of the public, local and from different parts of the world, in a forum where they can interact, express themselves and ask questions,” said a UBCO news release.

The SE-Change Festival activities are free and open to all.

The festival officially opens on Monday with a roof opening ceremony in the atrium and on the roof of the Innovation Center between 16:45 and 18:30
