The moment a Russian missile hits a Ukrainian shopping center
Prime Minister Boris Johnson played down the estimated 35 nuclear threats made by President Vladimir Putin since the start of his military operation – insisting instead that he would be able to overcome Ukrainian resistance by conventional means.
In an interview marking the end of the NATO summit in Spain, Mr Johnson told LBC’s Nick Ferrari: “I think it’s very, very important that we don’t allow ourselves to be sidetracked by this kind of gun rattling.
“Because essentially what Putin is trying to do is reframe this as Russia versus NATO.
“It’s not. It’s about his attack on a completely innocent country, with conventional weapons, with artillery, bombing by planes, shells, etc.
“And it is about the right of Ukrainians to defend themselves. That’s what it’s all about.
“And what we had today in NATO was, again, the alliance being tested, questioned, interrogated. Are we decided? Are we decided? Will we give the Ukrainians the means to defend themselves?
“And the answer was absolutely yes, and if nothing else, the power of unity is greater than it was before.”

Boris Johnson’s 2030 military spending promises ‘weak’, senior Tories say
Boris Johnson tried to heal the rift in the cabinet by pledging to increase defense spending to 2.5 percent of Britain’s economic output by the end of the decade.
The Prime Minister closed the Nato summit in Madrid with a pledge that it could see more than £55bn added to military budgets this decade, following Ben Wallace’s pleas for more money.
But senior conservatives said the prime minister’s ambition remained “weak” and the target too far, given the seriousness of the immediate threat from Vladimir Putin’s Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.

Putin can retain power in Russia if he backs down over Ukraine, says Boris Johnson
Vladimir Putin still has a way out of the war in Ukraine without losing his power in Moscow, Boris Johnson has suggested.
He has previously been critical of Western leaders, such as France’s Emmanuel Macron, who suggested Putin should be offered a ladder to climb down to allow him to end the conflict without losing face.

UK ‘underspending’ on climate crisis to be used to boost military aid to Ukraine
After the British government announced it would almost double aid to Ukraine to help prevent a Russian invasion, Mr Kwarteng tweeted: “My department contributed to the effort by handing over climate funding and foreign aid not spent.” .
The admission comes a month after The Independent revealed that the UK government has failed to deliver almost a quarter of a billion pounds in environmental projects aimed at achieving net zero emissions, despite Boris Johnson calling on governments around the world to dramatically increase investment to tackle with the climate crisis.
