In a desperate call earlier today, Thames Valley police detective Rob Platt said there were “many witnesses” because the incident happened “in the middle of the afternoon”.

Officers have now arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder.

The man’s condition has changed from “critical” to “severe but stable”.

DI Platt, based at Banbury Police Station, reopened the complaint, adding: “We are continuing a full and thorough investigation into this incident and have now made an arrest.

“Again, I would urge anyone who has any information or has witnessed the incident to contact the Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting reference number 43220255119.

“I would like to reiterate my praise for those members of society who came to the immediate aid of the victim, applying emergency first aid until the arrival of medical professionals at the scene.

“Their actions undoubtedly gave the victim the best possible chance of surviving his injuries, and I congratulate them on their quick response.
