Updated: Yellow Thunderstorm Warning for York and North Yorkshire has been extended

Do you remember the rain?

He’s been out of action for so long that he might make a big comeback very soon.

The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning – and today (Saturday) extended its duration and geographical extent for York and the whole of North Yorkshire.

Now covers all Mondays and Tuesdays (August 15 and 16).

“While some areas remain dry, areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue into Monday, leading to possible disruption,” the Met Office said

If a thunderstorm hits, here’s what the National Weather Service says to expect:

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses will be quickly flooded, with some building damage from flooding, lightning strikes, hail or high winds
  • In the event of a flood or lightning strike, delays and some canceled trains and buses are likely
  • Spraying and flash flooding may lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small possibility that power outages will occur and other services for some homes and businesses will be lost.

The latest forecast calls for a dry and hot weekend with temperatures reaching 31C in York on Sunday.

Temperatures are then set to reach a top of 27C on Monday, with a high of 21C for the rest of next week and more rain forecast before clearing again on Friday.
