Violence in Chicago: 39 shots, 4 deadly over weekend shootings across the city, CPD says

CHICAGO – The weekend shootings in Chicago left at least 39 people shot, four deadly, police said.

Most of the victims of the shooting were wounded on the south and west sides.

Five people were injured in an attack on Friday night in the Douglas area on the south side. They were parked in the 3,000-block South Rhodes Avenue when a gunman opened fire at 11:45 p.m., police said. Three 20-year-old men and an 18-year-old woman were injured in the attack.

Murders

A 36-year-old woman was killed in a shooting Sunday in West Englewood. She was on the sidewalk at about 8:30 p.m. in Block 6400 on South Marshfield Avenue when someone opened fire and hit her in the head, Chicago police said. The woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said. Police initially said the woman was 60 years old. Zone 1 detectives are investigating.

Early Sunday, a man was killed in Englewood, South. Police found the 40-year-old man on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to the head and body in block 700 on West 73rd Street around 3:35 a.m., police said. Paramedics took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said no one was detained.

A man was killed in a shooting near the West Side on Friday night. The 22-year-old was sitting in a vehicle around 11:45 pm when a red car passed by and someone inside shot at a 2,300 block on West Harrison Street, police said. He was shot in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died.

A man was killed on a porch Friday night in Stone Island Park. Someone opened fire on him around 8:30 p.m. in block 8400 on South Bennett Avenue, Chicago police said. The 30-year-old was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Non-fatal attacks

Three men were injured in an attack in Humboldt Park on Friday. Officers responded to the shooting around 9pm in block 800 on North Central Park Avenue, police said. They were all treated in hospitals.

Also Friday, a 17-year-old girl was injured in South Chicago. She was in a vehicle driving around 9:50 p.m. in block 8800 on South Mackinaw Avenue when someone opened fire from an SUV, police said. She was shot in the shoulder and taken to hospital in good condition.

A woman was shot dead in River North early Saturday. A man approached the vehicle she was in and showed a weapon in the 100-block on West Illinois Street. The man who was driving tried to leave when the shooter fired at the car, hitting the woman in both legs. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Last weekend31 people were shot, six were killed.
