Voy: Nets-Kyrie Irving talks became “fierce” as the Lakers “outlined”

Speaking at ESPN on Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski said contract talks between Kyrie Irving and the Nets had become “fierce” as the two sides continued to look for a common language on where Irving would play next season.

Woe also said that while Irving has given the Nets six NBA destinations he would prefer if there was no agreement, there is limited interest in him for maximum money. The ESPN insider said the only team with real interest was the Lakers. However, he argues, signing a contract with Irving that pays more than $ 6.3 million – a taxpayer’s MLE – seems unlikely.

“It’s getting fierce,” Voy told a panel of ESA’s NBA analysts. “And I think that’s the concern when you look at not only Kyrie’s future in Brooklyn, but also Kevin Durant’s future and whether they can support this thing together.

As SNY’s Ian Begley announced on Thursday, owner Joe Tsai and Sean Marx are one step closer to negotiations.

Howie was also clear that with some of Irving’s six landing sites, not all of them matched each other.

“The interest is not mutual in several of these places,” Voy said. “Obviously the Lakers are the ones who are emerging. And whether Kyrie Irving will give up a $ 36.9 million player option that she can choose and have that money guaranteed, especially after a year in which she lost about $ 17 million because she wasn’t vaccinated last year, and untold more with a sneaker deal that isn’t going to be there anymore, certainly at the level it was. ”

Nike, with whom Irving has had a tumultuous relationship in recent years, informs him that their relationship is coming to an end, at least on a lucrative level. Woy said that even if LA wanted to arrange a reunion with LeBron, there was little hope of making any deal other than TJ. The report could also be an attempt by one side or the other to signal that now is the time to get things done between the Nets and Irving. At this stage, this seems unlikely.

“Apart from going out and really doing some creative things financially, they can’t pay him more than $ 6 million next season. Now they could vacate a little space and sign it for further expansion, but you’re essentially looking for a $ 30 million salary to give up that Brooklyn team to give up. As Bobby (Marx, the capologist of ESPN) said, just choosing to get a sign and trading somewhere is a very complicated scenario.

Not sure where the Nets’ proposal for Irving is. Woy hinted the other day that it could be two years and $ 84 million, far from the fifth year, the $ 245.6 million that Irving wants. And that would be higher than what Christian Winfield offered this week, was their initial offer: choose $ 36.9 million next season, then return to negotiations next July.

Irving has until next Wednesday to resolve the issue before the free agency. But he can stretch things by giving up and then assessing the market in early July. Meanwhile, the Nets will also have to fill their roster and decide on their remaining eight free agents, including Bruce Brown and Nick Claxton. If they receive offers from other teams, the ownership of the Nets and the front office will have to decide whether to match. Not knowing Irving’s (or KD’s) status would complicate matters.
