VPD is looking for witnesses after an attack on a teenager in a mall

Vancouver – Vancouver police have appealed to witnesses of a seemingly random attack allegedly involving a 15-year-old boy and released a video of the incident in hopes that people would come out.

“Although we arrested a suspect in this case, we are still gathering evidence,” said police officer Tanya Visintin. “We are particularly interested in talking to people who saw the suspect immediately before or after the alleged attack or heard any interaction the suspect had with the victim or other people.

The 15-year-old victim was walking in the Pacific Center mall around 11:45 a.m. on May 8 when a man approached him from behind and swept him to the ground. The alleged suspect fled after the attack, but was followed by mall guards.

The teenager did not receive any serious physical injuries.

VPD patrol officers were immediately called and quickly identified the suspects.

Faisal Abubecker, 25, has been charged with assault and has been released pending trial.

Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 604-717-2541.
