“A199 closed between the Dolphinstone junction and the Strawberry Corner roundabout.

The ScotRail trains, which were nearly canceled due to a strike, reported delays due to the accident, with the transport company turning to social media to confirm: “We had a signal for a truck on the track between Walford and Prestonpans.

“Because the truck is close to the overhead lines, the power supply is turned off for safety reasons, the power supply affects Edinburgh entry and exit services.”

National Rail posted a photo of the incident, adding: “We are working with emergency services to find the best way to recover HGV.

“Once this is done, we will have to check for damage to the rail and air kit.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nicholas Sturgeon told the UK government to have “respect” for the workers by resolving the dispute over the train that “cripples” the UK.

Rail services have been drastically reduced across the country following a national exit amid fierce pay disputes between members of the RMT and Network Rail union.

Asked by the prime minister on Thursday whether she thought the UK government’s reported proposals to replace strikers with agency staff “ignited” the problem, Ms Sturgeon said workers were paying the price.

Downing Street has announced plans to change the law to allow companies to supply skilled workers from agencies to fill staff gaps during industrial operations.

However, the plans have been declared “shameful” by union bosses.

Ms Sturgeon said she understood the dangers of “escalating” the dispute if a solution was not reached between railway employers and unions.

She added: “[Workers] pay the price for Tory’s anti-union rhetoric, in fact anti-union rhetoric, which I completely reject.

“We have to respect workers throughout the economy. We must respect public sector workers and we must strive to negotiate a fair settlement of disputes, especially in times of inflation – inflation in the UK is exacerbated by the madness of Brexit.

“The railway strike that is currently crippling the UK is not the result of a pay dispute with ScotRail. This is a dispute with Network Rail and the English companies operating trains, so it is a completely reserved issue.

“And the other thing I remember from a few weeks ago in this Chamber, when there was potential for a dispute with ScotRail, the MSPs rose and asked for this government to intervene to resolve it.

“So let me reiterate my call today for the UK Government to start doing its job to get around the table, to table a resolution on this issue and to abandon anti-unionism and have some respect for workers throughout the economy.
