Police said the man was shot shortly after 7:30 p.m. in the area of Bremer Blvd. and York St., near Union Station, which was briefly closed for an investigation.
The victim, who had not been identified as of early Sunday evening, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
According to police, witnesses said they saw one suspect running south on Lake Shore Boulevard. and another running into Union Station.
As a result, Union Station was locked down while TTC/Metrolinx train service was temporarily suspended, eventually resuming service around 9:30 p.m.
Police searched the area but found no suspects.
“We have since cleared Union Station and full service has resumed, train service for the TTC and for Metrolinx. So I want people to know that they can go home safe,” said Toronto Police Duty Insp. Paul Krawczyk told reporters late Saturday.

The incident occurred during several high-traffic events downtown, including a Blue Jays game and a Honda Indy.
“I understand that it would be very disturbing to the public if it happened in a place like this at 7:30 at night shortly after the Blue Jays game comes out,” Krawczyk said. “I want you to know that from the preliminary investigation — and again, it’s very early — it appears that this is a targeted shooting, so I don’t believe there is any additional risk to the public at this time.”
No arrests had been made early Sunday evening and suspect information was not immediately available.
The Scotiabank shooting came before a double shooting at a King St nightclub. W. at night.
