Robert Wichorkowski, 33, stabbed David Kardzil in the neck with a broken bottle after a meeting near a children’s playground in Ketley, Telford, on July 3 last year.
He fled the area and went to the ground, but after weeks of police investigation, he was pushed into a corner in Hendsworth, Birmingham, and detained to answer his murder charge.
The family statements were read in court by Mr Kurdziel’s mother, father and sister, who spoke of their devastation.
His mother, Monica Kardzhil, said, “Our lives have completely collapsed” after the death of her son, who always had a big smile on his face and would cheer up the family. “The idea that someone allowed themselves to be taken away scares us,” she added.
The statement was read by prosecutor Michel Healy and translated so that Vitsorkovsky could hear it as he sat in court awaiting sentencing. Ms. Kurdziel spoke about the plans and dreams of her difficult and useful son, adding that she did not know how she would continue to live without him.
“You took something most valuable, child,” she said. His sister Martha said people watched her with sadness all the time after her brother’s death.
Her Honor Judge Christina Montgomery was told that Wiesorkowski had been convicted of a series of robberies involving violence in Poland from 2008 to 2011. But apart from a warning from police in 2021, he was clean in the UK.
Condemning Wichorkowski, she added that David Kurdzil was “deeply offended” by his “unjustifiably offensive and offensive” behavior towards his friend. He had gone looking for an explanation and had not offered violence.
“You were angry that he provoked yours and insisted that you explain yourself, and this manifested itself in violence. You attacked in the most brutal way, intending to inflict really serious injuries on him. “
“The injury caused Mr Kurdziel to pass out and die within minutes,” she said.
