Weapon found, student arrested after blockade at Emory University, Druid Hills High – WSB-TV Channel 2

Police investigating reports of an armed entity in the Emory University area, Emory students were advised to take shelter on the spot.

ATLANA – Police arrested in fear of gunfire, which caused a blockade at Emory University and Druid Hills High School.

This led to an order for accommodation on site at the university for most of the day.

Students told Tom Regan from Channel 2 that everyone was worried.

Students from Druid Hills High School said the principal had turned on the speaker, announcing that the school was locked for the second period on Thursday and everyone should stay in their classrooms during a potentially dangerous situation.

Police stormed the school when word got out that someone might be wandering around campus with a gun.

TRENDS Headings:

“Some people said, ‘Oh my God, what if there’s a shooter in front of the door?’ But we weren’t trying to take anything too seriously,” an unidentified student told Regan. “I didn’t know if it was real or not, so I wasn’t scared.”

Some students said the blockade was caused by a confrontation between two students.

“There was a fight between two freshmen. Apparently one of them got angry and pulled out a gun, “said Bradley Gober, DeCalb County School Police Officer.

Dozens of police officers searched the campus both outside and inside.

“The police entered every classroom,” the student said.

At about the same time, a nearby Emory University tweeted a warning, first warning of an active shooter, but then clarifying that a possible gun could be on campus and students should be sheltered on the spot.

Emory Alert Police are on site at Druid Hills HS. A possible armed entity at the Emory Campus Asylum is on site.

The chaotic morning on the high school campus could not be worse for some students.

“Everyone is in testing, so it’s confusing for everyone,” the student said.

The student, who allegedly fired the gun, was detained late Thursday afternoon.

Decalb County School Police say they found the gun in some woods near North DeKalb Mall.

He will be charged with aggravated assault and illegal carrying of a weapon in a safe school area.
