Weather in Manitoba: A thunderstorm is moving through Manitoba

Environment Canada warns Manitoba residents of a “dangerous” thunderstorm moving through the countryside.

On Sunday, the Meteorological Agency issued a thunderstorm warning for some communities in southern Manitoba.

The warning notes that a thunderstorm on Sunday could bring strong winds, heavy rain and hail the size of golf balls.

At 11:40 a.m. the storm was near Ste. Agatha is moving east at 30 km / h.

Environment Canada is urging residents to take cover if threatening weather approaches.

Heavy rain can cause sudden flooding and accumulation of water on the roads. Heavy hail can damage property, break windows and dent vehicles. May also cause injury.

Strong winds can throw loose objects, damage buildings, break tree branches and overturn vehicles.

The Meteorological Agency also reminds people that strong thunderstorms can cause tornadoes and that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
