Summer is a waste of time when you arrive in Ontario. Extreme heat scorched much of the province on Tuesday, with peak temperatures reaching a low of 30 degrees in some areas. This will continue for another day on Wednesday before moderating on Thursday. There is also a threat of storms and floods in eastern Ontario and southern Quebec on Wednesday. There is potential for severe storms with torrential rain, which could potentially reach 60-100 mm by Thursday. More on the heat and threat of a storm on Wednesday and what lies beyond, below.
THIS WEEK: HEAT WARNINGS STILL FOR ONE MORE DAY, HEAVY STORM, POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY RAIN
The province just experienced the hottest and wettest air so far this year on Tuesday, with temperature records broken at Pearson International Airport and sensation values exceeding 40 in many areas.
Much of the same heat will spread to eastern Ontario and southern Quebec on Wednesday, along with a serious risk of a thunderstorm. The highly humid atmosphere will increase the total rainfall, creating a risk of localized flooding before conditions cool on Thursday.

Storms are forecast to erupt in parts of eastern Ontario and southern Quebec on Wednesday afternoon. With limited instability, it is predicted that most storms will remain unserious in nature. However, several storms may meet stringent warning criteria with locally strong gusts of wind and torrential rain.
Confidence in storm development in the Greater Toronto (GTA) and Niagara Peninsula is low, but isolated storms are possible in the late afternoon.
Concerns of localized floods are rising on Thursday. Weather forecasters are monitoring an axis of heavy torrential rains and slow-moving thunderstorms, predicted to develop in far eastern Ontario and southern Quebec.
Stagnant system in a high humidity environment shows the potential that this narrow strip of rain can reach 30-60 mm, locally up to 100 mm, by Thursday. Flooding is possible and forecasters will closely monitor the Montreal region and surrounding areas.

As for the remaining heat, Tuesday and Wednesday nights will not provide any relief, with some areas remaining well above the 20-degree mark until the sun sets. It can be an uncomfortable sleep for many, even with proper cooling equipment. Cooler air is expected to arrive by Thursday.
Spectacular late summer weather for southern Ontario on Thursday and Friday with plenty of sunshine, low humidity and comfortable temperatures. The clouds will remain until Thursday for southern Quebec, but there will be increasing sunshine on Friday.
Then on Sunday in the region will continue a stronger cold front with rain and thunderstorms, followed by cooler weather early next week.
Temperatures are expected to be close to seasonal, probably even a few degrees lower than seasonal for several days, in the last few days of June and during the long weekend of Canada Day.
