Weekend mass shootings: At least 10 in the US leave a dozen dead, more than 60 injured

At least a dozen people were killed and more than 60 were injured in at least 10 mass shootings this weekend in the United States.

Some were at prom parties, a nightclub, a popular entertainment district, or a strip club.

The United States suffered at least 246 mass shootings in 2022 – far more than there have been days so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. This is the same number of mass shootings in 2021 until June 5.

In 2020, there were 161 mass shootings by June 5; in 2019, that number is 154. Both the nonprofit and CNN define mass shooting as one in which at least four people are shot, with the exception of the shooter.

Here is where the mass shootings took place across the country over the weekend:

“In Sokoro, Texas, five people were injured after a gunman shot at a crowd who had gathered to finish high school,” said Police Chief David Burton. All five injured are teenagers, including two in critical condition, he said.

“In Sumerton, South Carolina, one person was killed and at least seven others were injured at a prom.” In Philadelphia, at least two people were killed and 11 others were shot dead in a busy neighborhood. A third person may have been one of the shooters, police said. – In Chattanooga, Tennessee, two people were killed and 14 were injured in or near a nightclub.

“In Phoenix, one person was killed and eight others were injured at a mall.” The victim was a 14-year-old girl, police said.

“In Mesa, Arizona, two people were killed and two others were injured.”

“In Omaha, Nebraska, one person was killed and three others were injured.”

“In Chesterfield, Virginia, one person was killed and five others were injured.

“In Macon, Georgia, one person was killed and three others were injured.”

“In Saginaw, Michigan, three people were killed and two were injured.”
