West Coast woman seeking legal action after RCMP enters home

A West Bank woman plans to take legal action against the RCMP after claiming they entered her home without their knowledge and began questioning her 11-year-old daughter in the middle of the night.

The incident took place early Sunday morning. According to the RCMP, just before 4:30 a.m., they received a report of a missing person associated with a 17-year-old girl.

They said that the information from the applicant had taken them home and that after “a long period of knocking, ringing the doorbell and oral communication”, they entered the home through an unlocked door, verbally announcing their presence. The owner of the house was then awakened and confirmed that the missing girl was not there.

That’s not what local Courtney Pike said the situation has diminished.

She claims that the police did not knock because their dog was going to bark and they did not know about the presence of the police. She claims that the officers entered her daughter’s room, questioned her about the missing girl and did not have an order.

As for the missing girl, Pike says she can’t find any connections to bring police to her house.

She contacted a lawyer.

RCMPs say they have the right to enter a home without a warrant in certain circumstances related to public safety or the safety of an individual.
